Fieldwork Placement Request

The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars will hold academic seminars for college students at both the Democratic and Republican national conventions in 2008. These seminars provide students a unique opportunity to see where academics meet practical experience regarding a National Convention. Students attending the two week program at either the Democratic or Republican Convention will attend seminars during the day and are asked to volunteer at least 6 hours with an organization during the week.

We are asking various organizations for assistance in providing students with meaningful volunteer opportunities during the week of Democratic National Convention (August 25-28, 2008) and Republican National Conventions (September 1- 4, 2008).

To request student volunteers at either convention, please Contact Us.

10 Reasons to Use Washington Center Students as Volunteers

1 VOLUNTEER DIVERSITY
We expect to have 250 college students attending each convention from over 150 colleges and universities around the country.
2 PREPARED
Our students are familiarized with the convention city, public transportation systems and provided nuts and bolts information on the process of how conventions work.
3 PRE-SCREENED
We are working closely with both national political parties, the Host Committes to ensure that our students are pre-screened for convention hall access.
4 SKILLED
Our students possess a wide variety of event management, journalism, office, and technical skills that we can match to your needs.
5 SUPERVISION
Faculty leaders supervise small groups of 10-15 students and monitor their fieldwork assignments.
6 AVAILABILITY!
We will have a hotline you can call when you need volunteers to set up for an event. We even take last minute requests!
7 BACKGROUND INFORMATION
We have a complete database with students’ work experiences, résumés, volunteer preferences, references, educational level, GPA, and information needed to complete security background clearances, which we can send to you in advance (if needed).
8 ACCOUNTABILITY
In past conventions, people from all over offer to volunteer in exchange for credentials and as soon as they have their credential they are never seen again – this will NOT happen with our students! Each student is given an evaluation sheet to be completed after they have completed their fieldwork duties. If he or she down not complete their duties to your satisfaction - They FAIL the course!
9 EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY
Most students earn three credit hours for this academic program. This is an exciting opportunity to work with young people interested in public service!
10 YOUTH OUTREACH OPPORTUNITY
This is a great opportunity for your organization to get media exposure (if you prefer) and maximize youth leader outreach and training.
